About Lamborghini Countach LP500 Prototype |
The first prototype of Countah that was named LP500 was first shown at
the 1971 Geneva Car Show. The greatest characteristics were a edge shape
body and pop up doors. It had a steel body, a steel plate chassis and very
futuristic dashboard. This novel design surprised many people. This shape
is an original design of Countach by Marcello Gandini, and there are many
fans at now.
But, the mass production project was not being carried out smoothly. The
lack of cooling of engine room was a serious problem. Therefore, air scoops
and NACA inlets was installed on the body. The shape of the prototype was
nearing a production Countach in this way.
Lamborghini faced a management crisis in those days of development project
of Countach. Development of new 5 liters engine was called off, and it
was forced to a change by 4 liters engine. In 1943, the first real LP400
#1120001(second prototype) was produced at last after many twists and turns.
And LP500 was destroyed in the collision test. To our regret, the first
prototype does not exist for such a reason.
There were great hardships of development to a shadow of the glory of Countach.
This fact is not widely known. |

How to build the 1/24 Lamborghini Countach LP500 Prototype |
The plastic model kit of Lamborghini Countach LP500 doesn't exist. I built
the 1/24 scale LP500 by remodeling Fujimi enthusiast model series Countach
LP400 kit. This Countach LP500 model is order from a person same as 1/24 Countach LP400S.
The shape of LP500 resembles LP400. I thought this remodeling might be
easy. But it was my conceit. I had to remodel or scratch build all parts
except the window shield. Especially, the interior was a complete different
design. Both cars seemed to be similar, but were totally different.
To complete this model, I spent for 2 years 3 months and enormous labor. Though I felt for the first time modeling work was absolutely hard, This experience improved my skill.
These are the reference books of Countach LP500 which I used with this
model work. (offered by my client)
